31 Days of Halloween - Day 9 "The Burning"

Join us all October long as we spotlight different horror movies every day with a brand new video!

I'd consider this to be the most underrated slasher film of all time. It's starts out so strong, with a backstory that makes you feel for Cropsey, but also understand that it was an accident and he's clearly lost his mind. It takes a couple stumbles along the way -- what is with that hooker scene? -- but ultimately it brought the goods in terms of gore and likable characters.

I'm sure most of it has to do with having natural, charismatic actors that would go on to do big things (Jason Alexander, Fisher Stevens) but whatever it is, when the deaths start happening, you really feel for these kids. And boy does this movie have balls. The infamous "raft scene" takes out five characters in a brutal 20 second span. When the last time you saw a horror movie that sets up a bunch of characters and then kills a bunch of them off at the same time? Certainly not part of the norm in the slasher genre. Maybe Final Destination.

And I just love that fireside ghost story.

About zombievictim

I'd like my writing to further represent me as a person by providing different insights into the things currently on my mind. Whether it's writing about a movie, TV show, album, book, wrestling event, experience, or life lesson. I don't plan on making this a personal blog where I treat it like a diary. This is just supposed to represent… Me.
